NEW GAME ANNOUNCED – Star Trek: Infection

-

In a surprise announcement today from Gamescom 2025, a new Star Trek game is on the way! Star Trek: Infection released its First Look trailer, promising a Virtual Reality Survival Narrative game from developer Played With Fire and publisher Broken Mirror Games for the Meta Quest. Here are all the details we have so far!

Star Trek: Infection Trailer

Set aboard the USS Lumen and Deep Space 38, the game appears to be a mix of problem-solving, puzzles, and action. Interestingly, you play a Vulcan (potentially a Lt. Ferak) whose mind is being messed with as it’s overrun by an alien infection. As seen in the trailer, it is visually very reminiscent of The Expanse‘s protomolecule, and the creepy voiceover certainly helps set the vibe. This disturbing horror setup has worked well in Star Trek episodes like Enterprise‘s Impulse.

The ship is empty.

The crew is missing.

But something sentient and sinister has taken hold of everything, and now… it’s inside your body too. Mutating you physically and unlocking dangerous new abilities at the cost of your renowned Vulcan mind and composure. Explore the U.S.S. Lumen. Fight or embrace the infection. And confront the darkness within the ship… and yourself. Step into the boots of a Vulcan Starfleet officer tasked with a covert mission aboard the U.S.S. Lumen where things quickly spiral into a psychological and physical nightmare.

Trek’s Gaming History

Recent Star Trek video games have been as varied as they have been infrequent. With narrative style games like Star Trek: Resurgence, strategy games like Star Trek: Infinite, and the long-running mainstay of the MMO Star Trek: Online. As well as Star Trek: Prodigy’s ‘Supernova’, aimed at younger gamers. And mobile-based games like Star Trek: Legends, Timelines, and the Star Trek Lower Decks game.

Star Trek: Infection is already up on the Meta store and available to add to your Wish List. The game joins the long lineup of previous Trek games as a Virtual Reality Survival narrative with a strong horror theme. A sharp pivot from its recent predecessors, along with its PEGI 16 rating.

The game promises key features such as:

  • Tend to Your VR Body – Inhabit a full-body avatar in VR as an alien organism mutates your physical form.
  • Fight or Embrace the Infection – The infection is changing more than your appearance.
  • Face Horrors in Your Mind – Traumatic memories buried long ago are being resurfaced, against your will.
  • Set Phasers to Stun & Scan for Life – Use your phaser or rely on stealth and your iconic Vulcan nerve pinch to silently take down threats. Use your tricorder to scan for dangers and uncover vital resources.
  • Get Your Hands Dirty – Use your VR hands to interact with the ship. Use tools and workstations to physically craft items and gadgets.

Coming in 2025

Despite already being August, Star Trek: Infection is currently promising a 2025 release date, though game release delays are common. However, with Strange New Worlds‘ Season 3 racing toward its finale. And a long wait until Star Trek: Starfleet Academy‘s debut sometime in early 2026, it’s certainly going to be a welcome distraction. We’ll update with any new details as we get them.
