This might be as close to “Star Trek: Legacy” as we’re going to get for the foreseeable future. Since the end of Star Trek: Picard Season 3, fans have been demanding a spin-off show. This proposed show would follow Jeri Ryan’s Captain Seven of Nine taking out the newly christened USS Enterprise-G for a spin. While no series order has been made, we do have a new comic book series from IDW Publishing!
To celebrate the Star Trek 60th Anniversary, IDW have announced a new comic book series. As revealed today by Gizmodo, IDW will be relaunching its main Star Trek comic series with a new creative team and storyline. This new series will follow Seven of Nine and the USS Enterprise-G as they embark on a top-secret mission. We’ve got more details below, but it’s safe to say this comic series somewhat answers fan demand for more adventures in the 25th century.

Captain Seven of Nine Takes the Helm!
The new STAR TREK main title from IDW Publishing sees Seven of Nine onboard the USS Enterprise-G. As the newly minted Captain, the series follows her embarking on a top-secret mission. Seven leads the Enterprise on a top-secret mission to a hidden region of space, beyond the four charted quadrants of the Star Trek galaxy as we know it, to investigate a mysterious power that threatens to unravel the Federation.
The comic book series is written by Christopher Cantwell, with art by Dennis Menheere and lettering by Jodie Troutman.
“As we look back on 60 years of Star Trek, we celebrate a story universe that has actually always been about looking forward—a shared dream swirling within the daunting wonder and awe of the stars, I discovered Star Trek at the age of 10 and my life was never the same. The worlds, the people, the stories that wrestled with the work it takes to build community and consensus, to establish and hold sacred values like peace and harmony, the tenuousness of truce amid a galaxy of agendas and perspectives. That is the magic of Star Trek—the kaleidoscopic wonder of its complex themes and notions.”

Of course, the series needs to answer a few questions. Right away, I am wondering if we’re going to see Jack Crusher (Ed Speelers), son of Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart) and Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden). Will he be present in this comic series, or will he be mysteriously absent?
“In building a brand new Star Trek adventure, we seek to do just that: create something brand new, something that looks entirely forward into the hope of the complete—and at times frightening—unknown, all as our ensemble of characters stands shoulder to shoulder, facing the expanse of an adventure never dared before,” Cantwell continued. “There is an abundance of incredible mythos that Star Trek has given us over six decades, but with this launch we seek to shed that past even as we embrace its best qualities.”

The new Star Trek comic book series is expected later in 2026.

More Star Trek Comics, More Adventures!
While you may have noticed that Raffi Musiker is missing from the Enterprise-G adventures, fear not! IDW Publishing has also revealed that another Star Trek comic book series will debut in October 2026. This is Star Trek: Zero Point. As a new entry, it will be written by Hugh Award-winning novelist Charlie Jane Anders. This comic is set during the events of Seven of Nine’s USS Enterprise-G adventures; as such, it explains why Raffi is not with Seven.
Raffi has been tasked with leading a new crew aboard a starship tasked with a somewhat similar risky mission. The crew will be using a new predictive artificial intelligence, built to be the vanguard defending the United Federation of Planets from threats of tomorrow, before they even begin. Yeah, because AI in Star Trek has gone so well so far… Anyway, it seems the AI is wearing a mysterious yet familiar face. Many questions about who that could be!
“I’ve loved Star Trek for as long as I can remember—literally, some of my earliest memories are of wearing a homemade Starfleet uniform and waiting to get beamed up, I’m putting all my favorite Trek things into this comic: problem solving, ethical dilemmas, identity crises, and above all, chosen family. At the same time, I’m determined to write a Trek comic that newbies can read with no homework required: there are no easter eggs, no callbacks to deep lore, Anyone who loves Becky Chambers or Martha Wells ought to be able to pick up this comic and get a fun science fiction story about artificial consciousness and exoplanets. Also, I’m talking to tons of physicists to get the most accurate science I can into this comic. I’m having the time of my life.”

IDW Warp Into 60th Celebrations!
While these two new announcements are fantastic, there are more Star Trek comics coming soon. IDW Publishing has already announced two one-shot comics for May and September 2026. The first being Star Trek: Celebrations 2026, which sees the return of the IDW Pride anthology. This celebrates LGBTQIA+ characters from the Star Trek Universe, featuring stories by queer creatives.
Later in September of 2026, a new Star Trek 60th Anniversary special beams down. It makes sense, as Star Trek’s actual anniversary date is in September. This 50-page special unites a plethora of Star Trek comic creatives, including the likes of Dana Gould, Ryan North & Derek Charm, David Walker, Megan Camerena, and more, with covers by Michael Cho, John Tyler Christopher, Chris Fenoglio, and others, to tell stories drawn from across the last 60 years of Star Trek storytelling.
