Everything We Know About Star Trek: Across the Unknown

-

Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown has long been anticipated by Star Trek fans. And there’s not long left to wait, with the game launching across multiple platforms on the 18th February 2026. Of course, this is a video game based on the legendary Star Trek: Voyager series. Ahead of us all “setting a course for home” across the Delta Quadrant, let’s unpack everything we know about this promising addition to the Star Trek gaming roster.

Before we get to the full release, the developers of GameXcite have released an updated Demo of Across the Unknown. This is a free demo on Steam (PC), so if you want to get a taste of the game before the full release, you can.

Setting & Focus

On the 20th August 2025, publisher Daedalic Entertainment announced a new officially licensed Star Trek Voyager video game. Across the Unknown, developed by gameXcite, is a strategy-meets-survival game with a story-driven narrative. It’s set throughout Voyager’s journey across the Delta Quadrant, as we’ve seen in the iconic television series.

But here’s where it gets really interesting. The game has a large survival focus, and you have to manage your ship, resources, and upgrades effectively to survive. Across the Unknown also features branching narrative paths. That’s right – your choices matter! They shape how the story unfolds, who lives, and who dies. This means each playthrough could feel completely different from the last. The potential for multiple replays, each with different content and outcomes, is very promising!

Of course, Star Trek fans have long debated some of Captain Kathryn Janeway’s (Kate Mulgrew) choices in Voyager. For example, one is her decision about what to do with Tuvix. Now in the new game, you can decide for yourself. However, be warned: some of your decisions will affect the crew of the USS Voyager, so the story may differ from the series.

Gameplay

The core purpose of Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown is survival through the management of the starship, crew, and resources. As you progress through the game, you unlock new areas of the ship, gaining access to systems that can help you on your journey back to Earth. But resources are finite, so you need to find more as you travel through each sector of the Delta Quadrant. Mismanagement of your ship, crew, or resources could end in disaster. The last thing you want on your hands is a mutiny!

There’s also a fascinating “What if?” element to this game. As you progress, you’ll come across familiar missions and scenarios from the television series. But the beauty of this system is that you can choose a completely different outcome! Will there be justice for Tuvix in one of your playthroughs?

Altering key character arcs from the direction they took on the television show sounds intriguing, but your ability to choose doesn’t stop there. It expands to Voyager itself. Will you upgrade Voyager to focus on scientific discovery? Will you arm her to the teeth to fight your way through hostile space (yes, the game features combat too!)? Or will you embrace Borg technology to help you get home faster? The choice is yours!

Familiar Voices

Something many fans fed back after the demo for Across the Unknown launched on Steam was the lack of voiceovers in the game. That feedback was heard, and we now know the game will feature the voices of two original Star Trek: Voyager actors!

Tim Russ reprises his role as Tuvok, and Robert Duncan McNeill reprises his role as Tom Paris. The pair voice logs at the beginning of each sector, recapping recent events and setting the scene for the missions you face ahead. It promises to add another level of immersion to the game. I can’t wait to hear these logs in action!

It was important to us to bring back the original actors, Tim Russ and Robert Duncan McNeill, and to work directly with them in a way that felt authentic and true to these iconic characters. Even though this day and age brings interesting new techniques, focusing on performances recorded by the actors themselves allowed us to create something personal and meaningful within the scope of the project.

To further enhance the immersion, we understand that the game will also feature Star Trek: Voyager‘s main theme, composed by Jerry Goldsmith!

Purchase Options

With not long to wait until Star Trek Voyager: Across the Unknown launches, a pivotal question is: where can I play it? We’re happy to report that the game will be available on Windows PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. Please note that these links may not default to your local region.

There will be two editions available at launch: Standard and Deluxe. The latter comes with an additional 5 missions, 2 recruitable heroes, and 3 technologies.

The price of both editions on Steam is still to be confirmed. Prices on other platforms range from £30 to £40 for the Standard Edition and from £40 to £50 for the Deluxe. Personally, it feels worth the extra £10 for the additional missions, heroes, and techs!
