NYCC has become a staple point for Star Trek fans to get the latest updates in previous years. Described as “the ultimate celebration of pop culture this weekend,” more than 200,000 pop-culture fans beamed down to the event at the Javits Center from October 17 through October 20. NYCC is projected to have generated an estimated economic impact of $80 million for New York City, according to New York City Tourism + Conventions.

Lower Decks Season 5 Says Hello!

Ahead of the final season, Paramount has offered a glimpse into the one mission the USS Cerritos will face. A new poster to honour the final season has been released. For example, in typical Lower Decks style, this one is an homage to Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. You can see the poster below and the clip further down into this article. Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5 airs with a double episode premiere on October 24th 2025, via Paramount+.

In this 90-second clip, the USS. Cerritos is inadvertently drawn into an interdimensional portal. They then encounter another version of themselves. This moment sets the stage for the adventures ahead, hinting at the comedic chaos and character revelations as per Star Trek: Lower Decks fashion. Captain Becky Freeman, a version of Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), is the captain of the alternate USS Cerritos. It’s very Star Trek that the crew encounters a version of themselves.

We also know that Garrett Wang will reprise his role of Harry Kim in the upcoming season. It seems there will be more references to Enterprise as well. For example, the previous trailer glimpses inside the decon chamber, famously shown in many.. odd.. scenes on Enterprise. Star Trek: Lower Decks returns on October 24th with a double-episode premiere.

Star Trek: Section 31 Release Date!

Finally, the release date of the Michelle Yeoh-led movie has been revealed. Star Trek: Section 31 will beam down to Paramount+ on January 24th, 2025. However, keep in mind that this is a direct-to-streaming movie, so it will only be on Paramount+, wherever the service is available.

The cast of Star Trek: Section 31 is vast! Alongside Michelle Yeoh, we have Omari Hardwick as “Alok”, Kacey Rohl as Rachel Garrett, Sam Richardson as Quasi, Sven Ruygrok as Fuzz, Robert Kazinsky as Zeph, Humberly Gonzalez as Melle and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry). Additionally, Miku Martineau (Honor Society), Joe Pingue (The Expanse), and Augusto Bitter (EZRA) all join the movie.

Trek Central exclusively revealed that Cindy GohNikita Kim, and Houston Wong will play Phillipa Gerogiou’s mother, brother, and father, respectively. Thanks to the new teaser trailer, we know that Miku Martineau is playing a young Phillipa Georgiou. The trailer features flashback sequences of her past.

Strange New Worlds Looks To The Future

Fans were left on a cliffhanger, ending with the second season finale. This upcoming instalment promises to delve deeper into the lives of the USS Enterprise crew. A new clip released at New York Comic Con reveals a challenging situation. The USS Enterprise is caught in a difficult situation, facing off against the formidable Gorn—a hostile reptilian species. This tension-filled scenario sets the stage for a gripping start to the season. It seems the Enterprise has been ordered to retreat but has not done so!

New Zealand actor Rhys Darby is a notable addition to the Strange New Worlds cast. He is known for his comedic roles in Flight of the Conchords, and HBO’s Our Flag Means Death. His presence is expected to inject a fresh dynamic into the storyline, though details about his character remain under wraps. Additionally, Cillian O’Sullivan was previously announced to join the cast for the third season.

No release date has been given for Season 3 of Strange New Worlds. Fans will need to wait for more news on that frontier. STAR TREK at New York Comic Con saw Ethan Peck share many a story on Strange New Worlds. It also appears he lost a bet, which would explain his t-shirt.

Starfleet Academy Goes To Second Season!

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has just been renewed for a second season. Plus a new surprise casting announcement as Emmy Award winner Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black) joins the cast as a recurring guest star for Season 1. Actor Robert Picardo made a surprise appearance on stage in New York today, much to the delight of the crowd.

The actor had already been announced as part of the cast of Starfleet Academy back in July at the San Diego Comic-Con. Picardo joked ‘Please state the nature of the sentimental emergency’ when questioned about his surprise return to the Star Trek Universe.

Several more cast members joined Picardo via live stream. These included cadet castmembers Karim Diane, George Hawkins, Kerrice Brooks, Sandro Rosta, Bella Shepard, and Zoë Steiner—as well as franchise boss and Starfleet Academy co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman. The series is filming its debut season in Toronto, Canada, after having adopted Star Trek: Discovery‘s soundstages at Pinewood Studios Toronto.

Star Trek Merchandise at NYCC 2024!

It’s been a big year for Star Trek merch at New York Comic Con. For example, Fanhome debuted their Official Star Trek Die-cast Starships collection. Eight ships from the upcoming collection were revealed. These include the already-known USS Titan-A and USS Stargazer. The USS Farragut, USS Enterprise-F, SS Eleos, The Shrike, Luna-class USS Titan and USS Enterprise-G join the collection. Several more ships were revealed. See our full article below.

Meanwhile, the Nacelle Company revealed its first eight Star Trek action figures at NYCC. Earlier in September, it announced it had secured a license to produce figures. Mock-ups were on display at the show. CEO Brian Volk-Weiss also led a panel discussing the 6″-7″ figure line. These include Captain Edward Jellico, Peter Preston, Valkris, and Captain Rachel Garrett. We’ll have more details on these soon.

Conclusion

Star Trek at New York Comic Con was fantastic this year. Not only did we get updates on the Star Trek Universe, but we also saw some great reveals from Fanhome. I am very excited about the upcoming Star Trek Starships collection and where that is going next.

Unfortunately, many were expecting updates on Star Trek’s movie slate. While Paramount was keen to announce things earlier in the year, it seems to have all gone quiet on that front. Perhaps they are waiting to see how Section 31 does before jumping the gun and confirming details on films that may or may not end up in production. We’ll need to wait and see.

NYCC will return to the Javits Center next year from October 9 to 12, 2025. ReedPop is partnering with NYC Tourism for its official ‘Founded By NYC’ campaign, which will celebrate New York City’s enduring contributions to national and global culture as part of the festivities surrounding the City’s 400th anniversary and the United States’ 250th anniversary.
