Did Star Trek: Picard Kill Elnor?

-

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 has come and gone. While the third and final season celebrated the legacy of the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast, it also kicked off a new legacy of the U.S.S Enterprise-G. However, did Star Trek: Picard Kill Elnor (Evan Evagora)? Along the way, Picard, the series, might have killed off part of its legacy. The third season might have left the character dead in the eyes of Star Trek canon, so let’s take a look.

Elnor was a main character in the first season of Star Trek: Picard. Australian actor Evan Evagora beamed about to portray the young male Romulan. A survivor of the Romulan Supernova event, Elnor befriended Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart) before the start of the series. The Qowat Milat trained him to follow “The Way of Absolute Candor, ” which was funny in the first and second seasons. So, is he alive in the Star Trek universe or not?

How Star Trek: Picard Killed Elnor

We knew before Season 3 that Evan Evagora would not return to Star Trek: Picard. Sadly, it seems to have The Next Generation cast back, it cost the cast of the first and second seasons. However, the second season did conclude Elnors story in a nice way. He was stationed on the U.S.S Excelsior. This is a new Excelsior, not the one seen in Captain James T. Kirk’s era of the Star Trek universe.

However, as shown in Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode 9 “Vox”, the Excelsior was one of the starships taken over by The Borg. Sadly, and I say sadly because of what ultimately happened, the ship broke free. Under the commander of Captain Benbassat, the crew regained control of the starship. A distress call was sent, but the automated fleet via The Borg quickly took out the ship and destroyed it. A barrage of photon torpedos made light work of the Federation Starship.

Given the last placement of Elnor was onboard the U.S.S Excelsior, and we have not heard from him before or after that confirmation, he could be dead for all we know. The ship was his last known in-universe posting. Additionally, there is something rather ironic in the ship’s demise. One of the starships that fired on the Excelsior was the U.S.S Hikaru Sulu. This is, of course, named after the legendary character played by George Takei. Sulu actually commanded the very first U.S.S Excelsior. Somewhat poetic, I guess?

To Be Dead, Or Not To Be Dead?

While some would argue that what happens in-universe is final, others have new ideas. Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Showrunner, Terry Matalas, has weighed in on the discussion. So Terry, Did Star Trek: Picard Kill Elnor? The answer appears to be no. Terry responded to a Twitter user, “Elnor was not on the Excelsior.”. It seems that answers our question. However, it does come across as an afterthought.

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 didn’t seem to make a big deal out of the first and second-season characters. There were hardly any references to the first and second-season characters. For example, you would think Data would refer to Soji, technically his daughter. Additionally, Season 3 had no issues with killing off other legacy characters. For example, Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes) and Elizabeth Shelby (Elizabeth Dennehy) were killed off in the third season. So what do you think? Is Elnor alive or dead in your mind?
