SNEAK PEEK – Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Ep 3

-

The Wrath of Khan? No, this is Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Ep 3! The third and final season of Sir Patrick Stewart’s latest adventure into the Star Trek Universe continues. This week, we’ve got the upcoming third episode out of the ten episodes for season three. However, following last week’s cliffhanger ending, viewers think they know how this will end. Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the USS Titan-A are about to go toe-to-toe with Captain Vadic (Amanda Plummer) and her advanced warship, The Shrike.

Picard grapples with an explosive, life-altering revelation, while the Titan and her crew try to outmaneuver a relentless Vadic in a lethal game of nautical cat and mouse. Meanwhile, Raffi and Worf uncover a nefarious plot from a vengeful enemy Starfleet has long since forgotten.

Episode Synopsis – Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode three – “Seventeen Seconds”

The preview pictures for Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Ep 3 suggest where we are going. While the episode will feature The Shrike chasing down the USS Titan, another story is at hand. This is the reunion between Jean-Luc and Beverly. It was touched on in the second episode in a rather beautiful moment. However, we know a longer conversation is due to happen. Therefore, might we get the answer to why Crusher hid the existence of Picard’s son this week?

I actually think we have seen part of this conversation before. If you remember one of the Star Trek: Picard Season 3 trailers, there is a line by Beverly. She says, “It will be what it always was, attempts on your life”. Might this line be part of this conversation? Additionally, it could also explain why Beverly hid the assistance of Jack from Jean-Luc. You would not want to raise a child when every Star Trek villain tries to kill his father, would you? Beverly is also no stranger to being a single parent. Having raised her son, Wesley Crusher.

Video Preview for Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Ep 3

The Ready Room again gives us a heads-up of what this episode will feature. Last week, the cliffhanger ending was Picard and the USS Titan running into the Nebula. However, this week we’ve got a clip which follows along. It’s unclear if this is the start of the episode, as we can’t see Doctor Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) on the bridge. It’s clear that Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Ep 3 is channelling “Wrath of Khan” vibes. This isn’t an issue. However, it depends on how the episode plays out.

The bridge scenes from this glimpse already amaze me. As viewers, we can feel the tension of the crew as they do not know what is next. The alarms and flashes of screens remind me of Star Trek: First Contact. However, we will still keep comparing this to The Wrath of Khan. I mean, engaging an enemy in a nebula without sensors? You’d think Starfleet should have some advanced systems to overcome this now. However, I am sure this episode will have a twist to keep viewers on their toes.

Final Thoughts

I fully expect this episode to be a game of cat and mouse. However, the episode title makes me wonder. If anything, it actually makes me think back to one of the first Battlestar Galactica episodes. Titled “33”, the episode saw the Human fleet chased by the aliens every 33 minutes. Therefore, an episode titled “Seventeen Seconds” makes me wonder if a similar concept has been borrowed. Perhaps they can scan every seventeen seconds? Who knows! I’m excited!

Star Trek: Picard Season 3 will debut on February 16, 2023, on Paramount+ in the United States and on CTV Sci-Fi Channel and Crave in Canada. However, the series will be available on Amazon’s Prime Video service for most international locations in the following days.
