Over the years, I’ve begun to become convinced that somehow, somewhere, there is a data set linked to a presentation that concludes with STAR TREK FANS LIKE PIZZA in large bold letters. This would explain the Raven Forge Bat’leth Pizza Cutter. Over the years, various Star Trek culinary products have come out under the Trek brand. Including food containers, dinnerware sets and even sushi sets. But for one reason or another, all roads lead back to pizza cutters.
The original Enterprise was so popular that they even made a Discovery to go with it! With that said, in the case of this fan, at least. They’re not wrong. The Enterprise pizza cutter has been a staple of my cutlery drawer since it was released. It gets broken out every time there’s dough to divide up. It’s cut through more than a Klingon let loose on the tribble homeworld!
🖖 OUT NOW – Star Trek Bat’leth Pizza Cutter
But speaking of Klingons, a few days ago, an exciting new piece of Trek merch arrived at my door. The title of this article has given it away. But Raven Forge has just released their own Bat’leth Pizza cutter. With the design based on Dan Curry’s original bat’leth drawings from 1990!

Who are Raven Forge?
If you’re not based in the UK, you may not have heard of them before. Raven Forge is a UK company based in Skipton. It was founded by the brothers Sam and Tom Ive, who both used their shared passion for fantasy, sci-fi and gaming to grow the company.
Pizza aficionados like myself first became aware of them a few years ago when they launched their norse themed Pizza Axe. In recent years, they’ve begun selling more and more licensed products. I’ve been waiting and hoping that they would get the Star Trek license at some point. And it seems my patience has been rewarded!
Sam provided the following quote, giving some behind-the-scenes info about how the Bat’leth Pizza Cutter came to be:
“As lifelong fans of Star Trek, it was an honour to work with Paramount and the legendary Dan Curry to create something that blends a practical product with a part of the Star Trek legacy that is so instantly recognisable. Adapting Dan Curry’s Bat’leth design, we’ve created a tool that’s equal parts collectible and kitchen-ready—something we believe will capture the hearts of fans around the world.”
Samuel Ive, Co-Founder and Director of Raven Forge Limited.

Time Honoured Design
Raven Forge was kind enough to arrange a site-to-site transport to Scotland to provide me with a Bat’leth for this review. This was some fortuitous timing, with there currently being a rare extended spell of sunny weather north of the (English) border. I put it through its paces with some of my own home-made pizza dough, cooked in an outdoor wood-fired pizza oven (I did warn you I was a pizza aficionado).
When Raven Forge first contacted me about the Bat’leth, I was excited but also perplexed. The Bat’leth quite notably has four ‘prongs’ that extend out beyond its only continuous sharp edge. I immediately had mental images of trying to awkwardly angle it over the edge of a table to get a clean cut, or trying to use one of the prongs like a knife tip!
Fortunately, they were one step ahead of me. They just flipped the design. Placing the grips on the other side of the sword. Allowing there to be an uninterrupted sharp edge to cut through your pizza.
Material Composition
The Bat’leths seen in Star Trek weren’t typically made from metal, aside from a limited few made for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s season 2 episode, ‘Blood Oath,’ which were used for promotional photos (and possibly a couple of scenes).

But a kitchen tool made of resin probably wouldn’t last very long, or be particularly hygienic in the long term. It’s a good job that the Raven Forge Bat’leth is made from stainless steel. The grips are made of kitchen-safe plastic, rather than leather.
This combination of materials means that the Bat’leth is both food and dishwasher-safe. So it’s not just a good conversation starter but also easy to clean up. Unlike some previous Star Trek utensils, the Enterprise pizza cutter can be quite problematic to clean at times due to the saucer design!

Glory to you, and your ‘Za
As the image above demonstrates, the Bat’leth Pizza cutter isn’t just a conversation starter! It slices through pizza with glorious ease. It is long enough to cut through most pizzas in a single movement but short enough that you can also put it in a draw without much trouble.
Like its namesake, the Bat’leth Pizza Cutter is also well balanced. The design allows you to exert pressure as needed. Without the risk of the cutter slipping out from underneath you. The Bat’leths grips also mean that there’s no risk of the cutter flying away from you. If you’re holding it, it’s staying in your hands!
One further deviation from Dan Curry’s Bat’leth design. In addition to flipping it. Is a small protruding edge on where the grips would be. If this we’re a 1:1 replica! This is the edge that makes contact with the pizza. The fact that it protrudes makes it easy to sharpen with any standard knife sharpner. Meaning that your Pizza Bat’leth can be easily maintained for years to come!

When can I get it?
While I had a copy sent through a couple of days early, the Bat’leth pizza cutter is actually available now! For our readers in the rest of the world, there’s no need to worry about the fact that this is a UK company. Raven Forge ships globally!
The Bat’leth Pizza Cutter costs £34.99 and is available now from the Raven Forge website and Amazon. With special shipping rates set up for Trekkies all over the world if you go direct. Roughly equalling an extra £9.99 for Europe and £12.99 for the rest of the world!
