Star Trek Writer-Producer Roberto Orci Dies Aged 51

Trek Central is sad to share that Star Trek Kelvin Timeline Film Writer and Producer Roberto Orci has sadly passed away at the age of 51. The Mexican-American film and television screenwriter and producer was well-known to the Star Trek community for his contributions to the reboot era. Additionally, Orci was known for his long-term collaboration with current Star Trek Boss Alex Kurtzman.

Deadline reported that Roberto Orci passed away at the age of 51 following a battle with kidney disease. Born and raised in Mexico City, Orci moved to the United States when he was 10. His collaboration with Kurtzman saw him work on projects that generated revenues of more than $3 Billion. The pair began their Star Trek collaboration with the 2009 Star Trek reboot film. Orci was the person behind the creation of the “Kelvin Timeline“, which is the reboot timeline of the Star Trek Universe.

A Life of Film

Roberto Orci started off as a writer on Xena: Warrior Princess and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. Orci first became a film producer with 2008’s Eagle Eye and again with 2009’s The Proposal. However, his partnership with Alex Kurtzman saw him rise up in the creative world. Together they worked on the Fringe with J.J Abrams. Additionally, there partnership with Michael Bay led them to write the scripts for the first two films of the Transformers film series.

Orci is survived by his father Roberto Orci Sr., mother Macuqui Robau-Garcia, siblings J.R Orci, Taylor Orci, and Courtney Ford, and his dog Bogey. The Trek Central team sends their condolences to the Orci family. The Star Trek community has lost a talented creative today.
