It’s a great day for Star Trek Starship fans! In a new update, Star Trek Online Introduces Classic Starships via their new in-game bundle. Titled the “Heritage Starship Bundle“, three new starships have joined the game. For example, The Achilles from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Dominion Wars is now in the game. The in-game bundle is now available on PC. However, it will come to Xbox and PlayStation on August 22nd.
With this bundle, players can captain these classic Star Trek video game starships from over 20 years ago and explore the intergalactic universe within Star Trek Online. As any seasoned Star Trek fan and even Star Trek newcomers know, starships are at the core of every extraordinary adventure, including embarking on exciting quests in Star Trek Online, and this bundle is yet another way to honour the beloved history of starships in Star Trek.
Star Trek Online’s New Starships
Star Trek Online Introduces Classic Starships like the Premonition class. This starship first appeared in the Star Trek: Armada video game. The ship is actually from an alternate timeline in which a Borg invasion had completely destroyed the Federation. The Premonition was taken back in time to try to stop the Borg once and for all. As you can see, the ship sports a third nacelle. This is due to the ship being capable of time travel.
The Typhon and Valkyrie MK II from Star Trek: Invasion are a part of this bundle. First seen in the Invasion game, the ship was commanded by Lieutenant Commander Worf. Jean-Luc Picard described the class as a mixture between a “mobile outpost and carrier starship”. Honestly, I could make a Battlestar Galactica reference here. The Typhon class also carried twenty-eight of the new Valkyrie-class fighters.
Finally, we have The Achilles from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Dominion Wars. This ship was designed as a strategic heavy cruiser. For example, it was developed during the Dominion War to counter the massive warships used by the Dominion and the Cardassian Union. While originally only appearing in the Dominion Wars, the ship would be mentioned in the DS9 novel “The Long Mirage“.
Star Trek Online is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online game that allows players to explore the Star Trek universe from within. Players can also explore iconic locations from the Star Trek universe, make contact with new alien species and battle alongside other players in customizable starships. Star Trek Online is available on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
