-

Star Trek to be honored with Legacy award amid 7 nominations in the inaugural Critics Choice Awards in the US.

Today it was announced that Star Trek will be honoured in the inaugural Critics Choice Award ceremony due to be held on Sunday 10th January 2021. This is a special event held in partnership with the CW Television Network and is described as “a special event honouring the most popular, fan-obsessed genres across both television and movies, including Superhero, Science Fiction/Fantasy, Horror, Action, and Animation.”

Critics Choice Awards

While its yet to be seen if this event will be aired in the UK via either online streaming or a domestic TV station, this event should still be marked in our calendars as it’s of great interest to UK fans considering Star Trek is nominated for 7 awards, as well as picking up the first-ever Legacy Award in what will be Star Treks 55th Anniversary. The Legacy Award will be accepted by Sir Patrick Stewart and Sonequa Martin-Green who are both also nominated for best acting awards on the night.

“The Critics Choice Association will also present the Legacy Award to the “Star Trek” franchise, recognizing the cultural impact it has had across multiple decades while continuing to appeal to and grow its loyal fanbase with new stories and characters. “Star Trek” icon Patrick Stewart, and “Star Trek: Discovery” trailblazer Sonequa Martin-Green will personally accept this special honour, which comes as the franchise celebrates its 55th anniversary.”

The full list of Star Trek nominations are below and the full list can be seen on the Critics Choice Awards website by clicking here

The competition is tough with Lower Decks up against the likes of Rick and Morty, Archer and Bojack Horseman, and Picard/Discovery facing off against The Mandalorian, Raised by Wolves and What we do in the Shadows. Whatever the outcome, this demonstrates the quality of this new wave of Star Trek shows and it’s great that it is getting the recognition and the credit it deserves.

The ceremony will air on The CW Network on Sunday, January 10, 2021 (8:00-10:00pm ET/PT) and will stream the next day for free on The CW App and cwtv.com.
