We’re gearing up for the final season of Star Trek: Lower Decks! The animated series premiered in 2020 has carved a niche in the Star Trek franchise with its unique blend of humour and adventure. The series’ final season was part of the focus of today’s New York Comic Con panel! As such, a new clip and poster for the upcoming fifth season have been released. See below!
Ahead of the final season, Paramount has offered a glimpse into the one mission the USS Cerritos will face. A new poster to honour the final season has been released. For example, in typical Lower Decks style, this one is an homage to Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. You can see the poster below and the clip further down into this article. Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 5 airs with a double episode premiere on October 24th 2025, via Paramount+.
The Space Potholes Phenomenon
Ahead of the season’s premiere, Paramount released a sneak peek that showcases the crew’s initial encounter with a space pothole. In this 90-second clip, the USS. Cerritos is inadvertently drawn into an interdimensional portal. They then encounter another version of themselves. This moment sets the stage for the adventures ahead, hinting at the comedic chaos and character revelations as per Star Trek: Lower Decks fashion.
Captain Becky Freeman, a version of Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), is the captain of the alternate USS Cerritos. It’s very Star Trek that the crew encounters a version of themselves. We have seen this in Star Trek many times before. Just yesterday, I watched the Star Trek: Enterprise episode where Archer and Co encounter their own descendants. It’s creepy stuff when you think about it!
We also know that Garrett Wang will reprise his role of Harry Kim in the upcoming season. It seems there will be more references to Enterprise as well. For example, the previous trailer glimpses inside the decon chamber, famously shown in many.. odd.. scenes on Enterprise.
Conclusion
While this season marks the end of Lower Decks, its success may pave the way for more animated content within the Star Trek universe. The positive reception could inspire new series that explore different facets of the franchise.
