NEW Trailer for Star Trek: Section 31!

-

Finally, we have a brand new trailer for Star Trek: Section 31! We’ve got our first look at Michelle Yeoh’s Star Trek series turned original movie. The movie does not currently have a release date. However, the trailer does give us a glimpse of what we can expect from Paramount+’s “messy version of the Star Trek universe”. The teaser trailer gives rebellious tones. For example, Beyoncé’s “Formation” plays as the music. Also, catch a warning from Starfleet about its misfit content.

The nearly two-minute look (below) at Section 31 gives us an interesting vibe. For example, from the initial description, we knew Michelle Yeoh’s Philippa Georgiou would “face the sins of her past”. It’s been announced that actress Miku Martineau will play a young version of the character. It’s safe to say that Star Trek: Section 31 is breaking Trek tradition. But is that good or bad?

Meet The Cast of Star Trek: Section 31!

The cast of Star Trek: Section 31 is vast! Alongside Michelle Yeoh, we have Omari Hardwick (Power), Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), Sam Richardson (Ted Lasso), Sven Ruygrok (One Piece), Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim), Humberly Gonzalez (Ginny & Georgia) and James Hiroyuki Liao (Barry). Additionally, Miku Martineau (Honor Society), Joe Pingue (The Expanse), and Augusto Bitter (EZRA) all join the movie.

Trek Central exclusively revealed that Cindy Goh, Nikita Kim, and Houston Wong will play Phillipa Gerogiou’s mother, brother, and father, respectively. Thanks to the new teaser trailer, we know that Miku Martineau is playing a young Phillipa Georgiou. The trailer features flashback sequences of her past.

Alex Kurtzman has assured fans that the movie will fit “very specifically into canon”.

The Rundown of Star Trek: Section 31 Development

The journey to Star Trek: Section 31 has been a long road. Originally announced and intended as a limited spin-off series from Star Trek: Discovery, the project is now a movie. Actress Michelle Yeoh suggested the idea to Alex Kurtzman during production on Discovery Season One. CBS All Access, the original name for streamer Paramount+, officially announced Star Trek: Section 31 in January 2019. However, that was all the major news we heard at the time.

Fast-forward to April 2023, when Paramount+ announced that Section 31 would be released as a streaming “event film” rather than a series. Kurtzman commented that he was worried about oversaturating the franchise with too many ongoing series, which was a factor in turning Section 31 into an event film. Filming for the Yeoh-led film began in January 2024. As cast member Robert Kazinsky revealed, it wrapped on March 21st.

When Does Section 31 Release?

Section 31 will premiere on Paramount+ in early 2025. It’s the first time we have properly confirmed when the movie will be released. For example, some speculation was that the movie event may beam down in late 2024. It seems Paramount+ is keen for it to happen in early 2025 now. Stay tuned for the latest updates!
