Star Trek: Picard Season 2 brought John De Lancie’s return to Trek. His character, Q, is one of Star Trek’s all-time most extraordinary characters. However, what motivated the character’s return since his time on Star Trek: The Next Generation? Thanks to the home-media release of Picard Season 2, we learn more. A special feature, “The Trial is Over”, gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at De Lancie’s role as Q. Star Trek: Picard Season 2 is out now on DVD and Blu-ray. Additionally, a limited edition Steelbook is available.
Thanks to CBS Home Entertainment, Trek Central has a first look at one of its special features. “The Trial is Over” takes an intimate, behind-the-scenes look with John De Lancie. John De Lancie Returns As Q
One of the key decisions about his return involved not wearing tights. This is, of course, referring to the costumes of older Star Trek. While The Next Generation may be one of the best, no one can deny that the costumes might have been awkward to wear. John De Lancie was very happy not to be wearing his old costume.

John De Lancie On Returning As “Q” – Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Blu-Ray Special Features
Star Trek: Picard Season 2 reveals that Q has aged. He hasn’t technically, but he “updates” his appearance to match Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart). It’s a touching moment that both culls a large VFX budget and shows Q wants to torment his long-time adversary. De Lancie recounts how the creative team wanted “an expanse of time”. Especially when it came to his beard. Q’s new look certainly fits with the evolution of his character.
Alex Kurtzman speaks about how Q still wants to be this “Devilish trickster”. However, we know by the end of Picard Season 2, Q has a change of heart. Additionally, Kurtzman speaks about why Q has this obsession with Jean-Luc. Therefore over the course of the second season, we as viewers understand more, especially when it comes to the personal relationship between Q and Picard.
