Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4 Enters Pre-Production

Warping into the new year with some Star Trek news! While we don’t yet have the third season, work has already begun on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4. A listing in Production Weekly confirms that pre-production on the 4th season of the Anson Mount-led series has begun. However, don’t expect to see it anytime soon. Pre-production typically means the cast and crew are getting ready to begin filming. There is still a long road ahead, as with all these live-action shows.

We first learned about a fourth season of Strange New Worlds in April 2024. Unfortunately, that very same news from Variety brought us the cancellation of Star Trek: Lower Decks. The confirmation of a fourth season followed the official announcement of the third season in March 2023. Currently, there is no set release date for Strange New Worlds Season 3. Although, Star Trek fans are eager to beam back aboard the USS Enterprise.

Strange New Worlds Season 4 Filming Details

The Production Weekly listing states that work on Strange New Worlds Season 4 will take place between Q1 2025 to July 2025. So we’re looking at about 6 months. However, that would include both the pre-production and filming. However, it is worth noting these dates can shift or are currently only placeholders. We should have more definitive information soon.

Previously, actress Jess Bush confirmed that Strange New Worlds Season 4 filming will begin in March 2025. So, it looks like the pre-production phase will take some time. This usually involves getting all the assets, like sets, costumes, and more, ready for the cast to beam down and begin work. Bush confirmed this information during an interview with PIX11 News in November 2024.

Of course, we have no details on what to expect from the fourth season. Given that Jess Bush confirmed a filming start date, we can likely presume that Nurse Christine Chapel will return to the Enterprise for Strange New Worlds Season 4. Great news for fans of the team in sickbay! However, fans will need to wait for the third season of the Galaxy-class Star Trek series to learn how the rest of the crew are doing, especially with a large conflict on the horizon.

When will the New Season Premiere?

Many Star Trek fans want to know when Strange New Worlds Season 3 will air! We still don’t have a trailer for the season, though we do have a sneak peek clip from the Season 3 premiere episode (above). Actress Jess Bush hoped Strange New Worlds Season 3 would arrive in ‘early 2025’. We’ve got our fingers crossed for more information off the back of Section 31! So stay tuned to Trek Central for all news and updates!

For now, Star Trek fans can enjoy the upcoming Star Trek: Section 31 direct-to-streaming movie, which will be released on January 24th, 2025 via Paramount+.
